How Many Tables and Chairs for 50, 75, or 100 Guests?

By Jason & Angela

How many 6-foot tables, 60-inch rounds, chairs, and cocktail tables to rent for 50, 75, or 100 guests, plus what each setup costs and which tent it fits under.

For a seated meal, plan on one chair per guest and either 6-foot tables at 6 guests each or 60-inch round tables at 8 each. That's 9 six-foot tables or 7 rounds for 50 guests, 13 or 10 for 75, and 17 or 13 for 100. Add 3 to 5 more 6-foot tables for food, drinks, gifts, and cake. For a standing, cocktail-style party, figure one cocktail table for every 8 to 12 guests.

Chart of tables and chairs needed: 50 guests need 9 six-foot tables or 7 rounds, 75 guests need 13 or 10, and 100 guests need 17 or 13, plus cocktail and service tables

How many people fit at a 6-foot table?

Six, with three on each side. You can seat 8 by putting a chair on each end, but it's tight for a full meal and the end seats block the walkway when tables sit in rows. When you push 6-foot tables together into one long row, only the two ends of the whole row get end chairs, so count 6 per table.

How many people fit at a 60-inch round table?

Eight is comfortable, with about 2 feet of table edge per person. You can squeeze in 10 for a casual buffet, but there's little elbow room for a plated dinner. Rounds are easier for conversation, since everyone can see everyone, and they work well for weddings and showers.

How many tables do you need for 50, 75, or 100 guests?

50 guests

  • 9 six-foot tables (54 seats) or 7 sixty-inch rounds (56 seats)
  • 50 chairs, plus a few spares
  • 3 to 5 extra 6-foot tables for food, drinks, gifts, and cake

75 guests

  • 13 six-foot tables (78 seats) or 10 rounds (80 seats)
  • 75 chairs, plus a few spares
  • 3 to 5 extra 6-foot tables for service

100 guests

  • 17 six-foot tables (102 seats) or 13 rounds (104 seats)
  • 100 chairs, plus a few spares
  • 4 to 6 extra 6-foot tables, since a bigger crowd usually means a longer buffet

What does that cost?

Here's the seating for each guest count with our white folding chairs ($1.85), 6-foot tables ($7.50) or 60-inch rounds ($10), and a tablecloth for every table ($10), before delivery and tax:

  • 50 guests: $250 with 6-foot tables, or $232.50 with rounds
  • 75 guests: $366.25 with 6-foot tables, or $338.75 with rounds
  • 100 guests: $482.50 with 6-foot tables, or $445 with rounds

Rounds come out a little cheaper because you need fewer tables and fewer tablecloths. Upgrading to white garden chairs ($3) adds $1.15 per guest. Our pricing guide has the full price list.

What size tent fits that many tables?

Seating takes the most room, so size the tent to it:

  • 50 guests: two 20x20 high-peak marquees side by side, which seat about 72
  • 75 guests: three 20x20 high-peak marquees side by side, which seat about 108 (two fit about 72, so go with three if all 75 will be seated)
  • 100 guests: three 20x20 marquees side by side, which seat about 108, or a fourth if the buffet and bar go under cover too

Plan the buffet into the tent space so the food line doesn't take seats away. Our tent size guide has a to-scale drawing of each tent with tables inside.

Don't forget the service tables

The tables that don't seat anyone are the ones people forget. Most parties need one or two for the buffet, one for drinks, and one for gifts, the cake, or a guest book. A 6-foot table with a tablecloth handles any of those jobs.

What about cocktail tables?

For a standing party, plan one round bar-height cocktail table for every 8 to 12 guests. That's 5 to 7 tables for 50 guests, 7 to 10 for 75, and 9 to 13 for 100. If you're mixing seated and standing, rent seats for at least half your guests so nobody's stuck standing all night, and use cocktail tables to fill in the space between.

What about a ceremony?

For ceremony rows, rent one chair per guest and leave a center aisle. If the ceremony and reception are in the same place and you have a few helpers, you can move the same chairs to the reception tables after the vows instead of renting two sets.

Questions we get about tables and chairs

How many 6-foot tables do I need for 50 guests?

Nine, seating 6 each, plus 3 to 5 more for food and drinks.

How many round tables do I need for 100 guests?

Thirteen 60-inch rounds, seating 8 each.

Should I rent extra chairs?

Yes, a few. Late RSVPs, a plus-one nobody mentioned, and someone who needs to sit near the buffet all happen at almost every party.

Do you deliver tables and chairs?

Yes. We deliver to your door as standard, and setup is available as an add-on if you'd rather not arrange everything yourself.
